The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is normally convened every two years, and centres on formal and informal meetings of the Heads of Government of all Commonwealth nations.

The aim is to develop through consensus common positions on issues of importance to Commonwealth countries. A key feature is the opportunity during the Retreat for national leaders to discuss international issues of common concern frankly and directly through personal interaction, without officials and advisers in attendance.

Recent CHOGMs have been held at Kampala 2007, Valetta 2005, Abuja 2003, Coolum 2002 (Brisbane 2001 cancelled), Durban 1999, Edinburgh 1997.
